Requirements to become a professional chef:

 

  • Minimum IELTS score of 5 overall with no band less than 5
  • Completion of at least Year 11 schooling or equivalent

 

Pathway to Permanent Residency (PR) in Australia:

 

Enroll in Cert III in Commercial Cookery:

Duration: 1 year

 

Enroll in Cert IV in Commercial Cookery (after Cert III):

Duration: 6 months

 

Note: Some colleges may require enrolment in Cert IV directly.

 

Additional options:

 

  • Diploma of Hospitality Management (Commercial Cookery Pathway)
  • Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) assessment for working as a chef in Australia

 

Apply for Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485):

 

Eligibility:

Completion of a CRICOS-registered course

IELTS score of at least 6 overall with no module below 5

Nominated occupation listed under MLTSSL

 

Duration: 18 months

 

Enhance PR pathways with the Job Ready Program (JRP):

 

On completion of the 4-step JRP program:

 

Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA)

Job Ready Employment (JRE)

Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA)

Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA)
