The Medical Treatment Visa is a temporary visa that allows individuals to enter or remain in Australia for medical treatment purposes.

The visa duration is determined based on the length of the required treatment. Additionally, the visa can be granted to individuals who have been denied a different Australian permanent visa due to health reasons and are unable to leave Australia.

The SC602 Medical Treatment visa covers a range of situations and eligibility criteria, including individuals supporting someone receiving treatment in Australia, those donating or receiving an organ, and those intending to travel to Australia under agreements between the Western Province of Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Department of Health.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be receiving medical treatment or consultation in Australia.
  • Currently in Australia, aged 50 years or older, have been denied a permanent visa in Australia due to health reasons and are unable to leave because of your health condition(s).
  • You wish to donate/receive an organ for transplant in Australia.
  • You must be supporting someone who has applied for or received a Medical Treatment (subclass 602) visa.
  • Plan to travel to Australia through the agreements between the Western Province of Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Department of Health.
  • You hold a subclass 602, 675, or 685 visa and can demonstrate that you are experiencing financial difficulties due to changes in your circumstances since arriving in Australia. It is also necessary to show that you are likely to become a burden on the Commonwealth and are unable to leave Australia due to circumstances beyond your control. Additionally, you must provide compelling personal reasons to justify your stay in Australia.

Requirements:

You will need to provide the following as evidence to apply for the visa:

  • Have arranged and paid for medical treatment.
  • Have enough personal funds to cover expenses in Australia.
  • Be a genuine visitor.
  • Meet health and character requirements, with no medical condition posing a public health risk.
  • Meet financial requirements by demonstrating adequate funds for treatment and other expenses during their stay in Australia, including travel. If there are accompanying individuals on the visa, they must also demonstrate sufficient financial support for their stay in Australia.
