The Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa is a work visa available to international students who have completed a minimum of two years of study in Australia and wish to gain work experience. The duration of the visa can range from 18 months to 5 years, depending on individual circumstances. With this visa, there are no limitations on the type or hours of work you can undertake in Australia.

There are two streams under this visa: 

  • Post Study Work Stream (PSWS) : This stream is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree (at least a Bachelor’s degree or higher) from an Australian institution. It allows temporary residence in Australia, providing the opportunity to live, work, and study in the country.
  • Graduate Work Stream: This stream is for international students who have recently graduated (at least with a Diploma) and possess skills and qualifications relevant to specific occupations in demand in Australia. It allows temporary residence in Australia, granting the opportunity to live, study, and work in the country.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduated from a registered educational institution with a higher education or postgraduate qualification.
  • The applicant must provide evidence of their English language proficiency, either by holding specific types of passports or by taking an English test.
  • The applicant must fulfill the two-year study requirement and complete their qualifications within six months before applying for the visa. For the Graduate Work Stream, the occupation must be listed on the Medium-and-Long-Term Strategic Skill List (MLTSSL).
  • Applied for relevant skill assessment in the nominated occupation.
  • Completed their studies in a regional centre, other regional area, or a designated regional area.

Requirements:

You will need to provide the following as evidence to apply for the visa:

  • Currently in or outside Australia and held a valid student visa in the past 6 months.
  • Under the age of 50.
  • Fulfill Australian study, English proficiency, health insurance, health, and character requirements.
  • Meet the specific requirements of the stream you are applying for.
  • Satisfy the Australian study requirement.
  • Meet the English language requirement.
  • Recently graduated with an eligible qualification or possess skills and qualifications related to an occupation on the list of eligible skilled occupations.
  • Lived in a regional centre, other regional area, or a designated regional area during their study that led to the first subclass 485 visa.
  • Maintain residence in a regional centre, other regional area, or a designated regional area for at least two years while holding the first Temporary Graduate Visa.
